Sri M.P. Pandit

Sri M. P. Pandit served as the personal secretary to the Mother at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, and the Mother became the entire focus of his life. He studied the classical scriptures and living spiritual traditions of India, following in the footsteps of Sri Aurobindo and Sri T.V. Kapaly Sastry. His writing career spanned six decades, publishing over 150 books and many articles on subjects as diverse as philosophy, spirituality, social and political thought, science, religion, mysticism and the classical texts themselves. At the same time he became a commentator on the teachings whose powerful insights went right to depths and essence of the meaning.

Readings in Savitri

Panditji held meditation sessions in the evening at his residence for many years. The sessions would generally start with a lecture, a reading or a guided meditation theme and descend into the depths of a deep silent Force. Many of these programs were tape recorded. We have the pleasure to share some of the Readings in Savitri with you here. The files listed below are all MP3 files which can be played in Windows Media Player or other MP3 compatible players on your computer. Because they are such large files (30 megabytes or more) do not attempt this without broadband service, and even then it can take some minutes for the files to download depending on the speed of your connection.

Savitri: A Legend and a Symbol by Sri Aurobindo is a great epic poem ranging more than 800 pages in blank verse and covering the entire history and evolution of consciousness. It takes the theme of love conquering death and the final triumph of the Spirit, and the transformation of life, utilizing the story of Savitri and Satyavan from the Mahabharata.

The following passages are Pandtji’s readings for Book II, Canto 11 and are referred to by the pages from which the readings are taken.

Vasanti travelled with Sri M P Pandit to the USA in the late 1970’s. A member of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Vasanti was a wonderful singer of devotional music. The file is large and should only be downloaded using broadband.

  • Mahasamadhi of The Mother: Talk at Centre, Auroville 11/29/73 on the passing of The Mother of Sri Aurobindo Ashram on 11/17/73. (NOTE: this is an enormous file over 64 megabytes in size. it will take quite some time to download even for BROADBAND users. It is not practical for dial-up users to attempt this file.)
  • Meditation. This is an excellent introduction to the subject of meditation, systematically exploring the principles set forth by Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras and their practical application to further meditation practice.
  • Pioneers of a New Age (Sri Aurobindo and The Mother) This consists of several talks on Sri Aurobindo and his mission and yoga, Sri Aurobindo and the Bhagavad Gita, and The Mother and Her Mission

*Pioneers of Consciousness (Talk with Multimedia Presentation): Pioneers of Consciousness is a talk about Sri Aurobindo and The Mother by MP Pandit. It explores Sri Aurobindo’s writings on Integral Yoga, as well as features the lives of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, and Sri Aurobindo’s writings on the Bhagavad Gita. MP Pandit reads from writings of The Mother about herself, the ashram and Auroville; reads from writings of Sri Aurobindo on The Mother and also reads from The Mother’s writings about Sri Aurobindo. In this talk Pandit sheds light on how the Psychic Being works to lead an individual soul’s evolutionary progression, as well as how the Psychic Presence works to lead the evolution of the whole of existence.
